International Co-operation in Beheira Water & Drainage Company

Twinning with Amsterdam Water Supply(AWS) – Netherlands.

Twinning agreement has been signed between BWADC and Amsterdam Water Supply–Netherlands aiming at exchanging the technical and scientific experiences between the two parties.

The system is utilized in the design of new network, the rehabilitation and extension of existing water The agreement Objectives Include:

The first phase, from January 1999 to December 2001:

  • Water Plants maintenance and operation.
  • Uncounted for water (UFW).
  • Manage water artesian resources.
  • Management information system.

The second phase, from January 2002 to December 2004:

  • Operation and process technology at water treatment plant.
  • Environmental impact of water treatment.
  • Distribution networks.
  • The triplet international co-operation between AWS,BWADC & JWS.
  • Public awareness campaigns.

The third phase, from January 2005 to December 2008:

After establishing the holding company for Drinking water& wastewater, the granting organization shows its willingness to support the subsidiary companies through using BWADC acquired experience. They have chosen Beheira Water & Sanitary Drainage company, Alexandria water company, Damietta Water Company and El- Gharbya Water Company to be the corner stone of this co-operation.

Twinning between BWADC and Dienst Waterbeheer en Riolering (DWR) – Holland.

Co-operation in the field of Sewage:

A twinning agreement has been signed between Beheira Water & sanitary Drainage company and water management & sewage service (DWR) – Netherlands aiming at improving wastewater systems in Beheira governorate from January 2003 to December 2005 (this period is liable to be renewed). This twinning includes 4 activities:

  1. Improving the sewerage systems of the rural village of Sanhour.
  2. Establishing a learning program to improve the sewerage system and organization in Damanhur.
  3. Sludge investigation at Damanhur wastewater treatment plant.
  4. Realizing a sanitary system in a rural village

Co-operation between Beheira Water and Drainage Company and the Netherlands Management Co-operation programme (NMCP) in the field of underground water.

A simple and low cost Method for Iron and manganese removal from groundwater with less than 10% of the traditional way of removing Iron and manganese is applied in (BWADC) . This system is called Beheira Underground Removal of Manganese (BURMAN).

Through this co-operation, BWADC presented its experiment in solving the problem of Iron & Manganese high level in wells in a symposium with the attendance of Minister of Housing , utilities and Urban communities, Beheira Governorator, Minister of Local Development, Minister of Health and Population, Netherlands Ambassador and the chairman of NMCP company in Cairo on 18/9/2002.

  • The ground water wells are executed using U.P.V.C. Pipelines.
  • Mechanical and Chemical methods are used for developing underground wells.


  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Behaira Water and Drainage Company and The Dune Water Company South Holland (DZH) with Red Sea State Water Company and Gedaref State Water Company in Suden have singed a Twinning agreement .

The purpose of the twinning agreement is to improve water supply in the Red Sea State and Gedaref State in terms of improved water quality and water quantity .

Twinninng Fields :

1- Water production (surface water - ground water) .

2- Water distribution .

3- Quality control (labs) .

4- Customer service and billing system .

 

The international organization for developing Family & society (Plan International – Egypt).

There is co-operation between Plan international organization for developing family and society& Beheira Water company entitled “the national campaign for Environmental awareness and the ideal use of water”.

The Italian Co-operation:

The Italian project is responsible for developing drinking water supply systems in Beheira Governorate .

Arab Republic of Egypt pays special attention for developing and enhancing water networks and treatment plants, in order to create a suitable environment for working that helps the development in the other related fields. Beheira governorate obtained a grant from Debt-for Development Swap estimated by fifty million Egyptian Pounds which was signed on February 19 ,2001 between the government of the Italian Republic and the Egyptian government. According to this agreement, part of the Egyptian debt has been transferred to be used in the internal development purposes in Egypt.

The project includes the following areas:

  • The future studies area is Damanhour District (both Rural and Urban areas).
  • The detailed study area (Urban Damanhour).
  • Pilot areas ( Nekraha – Sekeneda ).

The Project components:

  1. Study and assess the existing water supply system in Damanhour City and district.
  2. Develop water supply master plan for the project area and identify the high priority works.
  3. study the modification and upgrade of water supply systems.
  4. Preparation of tender documents of high priorityworks.
  5. Provide technical assistance during the tendering period.
  6. Supervise the execution of the proposed works.
  7. Provide technical assistance for technology transfer to BWADC personnel and human resources development.
